I’m going to cover the 15 shots in the follow discipline in this post. Get your top spin on! Click on the picture to watch a video of the shots!
Shot 1A is a classic Walk the Dog shot. If you want a bigger challenge, put a blocker ball in the way and Don’t Hug the Rail. Or, try shot 1B where you need to hug the rail all the way up the long rail. For something more dramatic, shot 1C is a perplexing shot where all the balls get cleared out and the cue ball follows through to make the 8-9 combination.
Shot 2A is the vintage Machine Gun Follow trick shot. The cue ball makes a nice rat-a-tat-tat sound as it goes through the alley of balls. Shot 2B is like Ramaani’s Recoil where the cue ball pockets two balls in the same corner pocket, bouncing off the rail and coming back for the 2nd one. Shot 2C is similar to the Circular Follow shot, just less extreme.
For the 8 point shots, 3A looks easy, but can be a royal pain with new cloth since the spin doesn’t take as well. Shot 3B is a carom follow as the cue ball rides up the rail to make both balls. Finally Shot 3C was introduced to me by Paul Danno. It takes some ball pocketing skills as well as a good stroke. Great if you’re a “real” pool player!
The 9 point shots start of with with 4A, the Window shot, getting the cue ball to curve through a small gap in a wall of balls. Incidentally, this is one of the shots that Mike Massey missed in a couple of the first Trick Shot Magic’s. Shot 4B is the Out Of My Way trick shot with only 2 blockers. Shot 4C was introduced by Sebastian Giumelli in ESPN’s Trick Shot Magic 2005. The cue ball double kisses off the 1st object ball, then caroms off the wall to make the ball in the corner.
Shot 5A kicks off the 10 point shots with the Carom Arc. This is a very touchy shot where small adjustments will make or break it. Shot 5B is the long rail version of the Dipsy Doodle shot. Hit it a little harder, but judging the spin is also necessary as it’s easy to come up short and long. Finally, Shot 5C is the Follow the Kiss trick shot where the cue ball double kisses off the object ball, then banks off the wall to follow around to pocket the hanger. Gotta juice this one up really good!
